As the Week Two action had a playoff-intensity feel to doubt, it was a night of high drama at the NFL.
We had late touchdowns to win matches, a massive back and forth in Denver, significant injuries and another officiating blunder.
That is where I’ll begin my look at six talking points from Week Two.
The referees allow the New Orleans Saints down major time last year, failing to see an obvious pass interference call that would have delivered Sean Payton’s men to the Super Bowl and not the Los Angeles Rams. Amazingly, the officials left yet another blunder that was massive on Sunday night.
When Jared Goff fumbled Having a tight, low-scoring game the Rams were compelling for the very first touchdown. Cameron Jordan conducted 80-plus yards for that which should’ve been a score and scooped up the soccer for the Saints.
But an over-eager officer uttered a whistle claiming it was not a fumble. It had been ruled a fumble after replay since the runback had been whistled dead however, the touchdown could not stand.
This was a part of refereeing – you overturn that on review and need to allow the runback stand out if necessary.
Payton has to be beside himself with all the blunders. The Saints never did find the end zone after that winners ran out. However, that margin of victory should not detract from shocking refereeing.
One major reason the Saints needed that touchdown was because star quarterback Drew Brees was sidelined early after damaging his hand when clashing with LA protector Aaron Donald on his follow .
This proved to be a massive reduction as stand-in Teddy Bridgewater – a former Pro Bowler who’s fought back from a catastrophic injury of his own – looked of the depth.
It doesn’t seem good for Brees making a quick return to the in which Steelers legend Ben Roethlisberger abandoned Seattle with his team loss with an elbow injury, and it might be exactly the outcome in Pittsburgh.
Big Ben has an MRI. Stay tuned as these are two enormous, season-altering injury scenarios worth watching carefully.
In the past several years, the New England Patriots have made shaky and gradual starts . And from the Super Bowl, each season has been ended by them for the past 3 decades. Though because no discussion of a slow start is necessary, we can keep the ink in our pens this time round.
In 43-0 and 33-3 wins over Pittsburgh and Miami the Patriots have scored 76 points. That is tied to the most in team history using the 2007 squad that won all 16 regular-season games before losing in the Super Bowl.
They do need him although we don’t know just how long Antonio Brown is going to be on the subject with this team. They will roll along with or without him – Tom Brady appears in sublime early-season shape, the racing game is strong and the defense is one of the best in the group .
It’s down the Patriots and the Chiefs in the AFC this season.
I don’t care about what the long term strategy would be in Miami – that they cannot put that product on the field and expect any enthusiasts to switch up to their matches. How they can charge money that is good for your tosh they’re serving up is past me.
59-10 was lost by miami to Baltimore on opening weekend in the home and there had been a lot of discussion better in Week 2. Well, I guess 43-0 is better than 59-10, but only just! The cabinet is so bare in Miami these Dolphins make Old Mother Hubbard look as a denizen of excess and gluttony.
I believe it is shocking how bad this group seems but perhaps we should have seen it coming. In the now-defunct Alliance of American Football, the Dolphins failed to signal the players at the NFL after all and over 25 per cent of the roster was not even on the group a week prior to this season kickoff.
It will be a bad year in Miami. Through two games, the Dolphins have let 102 points – which is tied for the maximum in the forthcoming two weeks of this year at the Super Bowl era together with the 1973 Saints.
The Oakland Raiders were flying around the field and playing with strength at the start of Sunday’s AFC West showdown with Kansas City. And that urgency led for Black and the Silver to an early 10-0 lead. However, all they did was make Patrick Mahomes mad.
He threw for 278 yards and four touchdowns in the second quarter and that was sufficient to guarantee a win to the Chiefs. Mahomes – that ended the afternoon with passing yards – is really special and also the one true danger to the Patriots and Brady.
The Chiefs are without injured wide receiver Tyreek Hill however, it does not matter. Mahomes makes his receivers seem great. Last week, it was Sammy Watkins and this time he ruined the Raiders with Travis Kelce DeMarcus Robinson and newcomer Mecole Hardman.
That’s what the wonderful ones do they make everyone around them elevate their game. The Chiefs will be there or thereabouts come the season’s end .
This competition between the Chicago Bears and Denver Broncos’ first 55 minutes has been a snoozer at Mile High Stadium. But we got to witness one of the most explosive and finishes in league history.
Denver pulled to within 13-12 on Joe Flacco’s seven-yard pass with 31 seconds remaining to Emmanuel Sanders. Go for 2 and the Broncos decided to roll the dice to get involved with a delay of game penalty. So Denver opted for its stage, which Brandon McManus pushed wide right. But Denver transferred back nearer to the goal-line plus they moved into a lead on the pass of Flacco to Sanders.
However there was sufficient time for Mitchell Trubisky to drive downfield and to allow the Bears to complete a pass on fourth down. That setup Eddie Pineiro’s game-winning 53-yard kick as time expired. Just in the NFL!
It was redemption of sorts for the Bears, who travelled through kicker angst at the end of last year and all through the summer. But this win shouldn’t detract from a straight showing at quarterback.
